MY HAIR STORIES

Most of us women, especially depend on someone else to
help us keep our hair under control--
in some shape or condition--

I started life out as a blonde--
(I know that explains alot about me, right??)
but by 6th grade it had all turned to a medium brown--
except one stubborn blond strip--
everyone excused me of coloring it--
but by the end of that year I was totally a medium brown color--

and by 7th grade-
I was sleeping every night with big curlers in my hair--
as my hair was straight!!
Do you remember those curler nights??

What got me thinking about 'hairdressers' was my friend back in high school,
Jimmy--he went to a different school district than I did, but we went to the
same Church and youth group--and his Mom was a hairdresser-
and I know that I went to her at least once somewhere along the that time--
but as a side story here--(the reason I was thinking of Jimmy
 was we have birthdays about the same time too--first part of May)
and the two of us used to have fun--we would sit on a bench outside the small
post office in the village and just sit there--
and when people would come along to go in the post office--
we wouldn't say a word--we would just 'point down to our feet'
where I had one foot next to one of his --and
it would always send them in the post office smiling or laughing-
you see I have small feet-back then probably a size 4 1/2--
but Jimmy--well he wore a size 13 or so--big feet!!!

Ok--back to hairdressers--
my next hairdresser ended up being Kathy--
who also ended up married to one of my cousins--
the biggest thing I remember though was her giving me
my first 'perm'--
the style, at the time, was nice wavy curls--

but what I got that day --was not nice wavy curls--

Yes this bad--
I got a big head of frizz--terrible frizz--the kind you cry and cry over--
and try everything you can to make it straight again-
(I hadn't heard of ironing it,or I would of done that!!)
but I lived through it!!

Then highlighting became popular a few years down the road-
and I didn't get into dying my hair, but highlights sounded cool--
so off to see Kathy again--

I nearly had a heart attach in the chair when she painted all these colors
on my hair--blue, red, green, yellow--thought I was an Easter Egg--
but it came out really nice and I loved it--

It wasn't until around 1996 that I finally had a steady hairdresser--
Charlene--there in Watkins Glen, NY and I went to her for years
really until I moved back here this past year and she moved at the same time--
by then though, I was no longer highlighting my hair--
nor doing perms of any kind as I am allergic to all those chemicals--
and I no longer have med brown hair--
it is a dirty gray now--
and very curly--
yep curly--all natural--too--
back in 1999 when I got so allergic to all chemicals I even had to
stop using hair dryers, and curling irons--
all I do now is shampoo it with bar soap-
and, now for whatever reason it gets nice and curly--
I am the envy of alot of seniors now!!!
And I need a hair trimming--soon!! if not sooner!!!!
