NEW TOYS--

well--maybe 'toys' isn't the right word for them--
but they are new to me--

I remember when I first started quilting 20 some years ago now--
(Wait--20 years ago--can't be that long ago???)
anyways--
every new gadget and ruler--
If I could afford it --I got it--
some got used alot--
some really never--
then I finally settled in and used what I had and didn't really get anything new--
I discovered that alot of the new items--where really 'make overs' from some of
the items I already had--so I really didn't need them--
and stopped buying everything--!!!

One of the newer items I did purchase though--
and love--
is the wool pressing mats--they are really new--didn't have anything like them 20 years ago!!

Recently I had seen a couple new items being used and advertised and I kept them in mind--
and when I needed to order just a bit more to get free shipping in a fabric order, I ordered them--
Here is one--
the new Omingrid set of 3 different sizes of rulers for marking half square triangles for stitching-
and they are really nice ( have had a ruler for years that I have used that has a cut down the center that used to line  up the squares --corner to corner--but often found it hard to use and line up--
these are marked much better and with 3 of them in different lengths are easier to use--
so love this new set--

and then I had also seen this 'tape'--
actually on the Cluck Cluck sew site--
and they showed how they use it--
and I thought that was neat--

so I got me a couple rolls
and today I tried it out while making the half square triangles for some blocks--
and it works really great--
for when you need to just stitch down the center--

use the red line
or
it you need to stitch the 2 lines to cut them apart at the center--
use the other black line from corner to corner--
then turn the block around and stitch the 2nd row--
using the black line again as a guide--
much easier than marking the squares!!!

While in one local quilt shop here in the Fall they had some on the check out counter--
and I asked the owner about it--and she said she loved it --
but--
she put the strip on each square and then sewed them on the lines--
she said she used 2-3 packages for her quilt--
I would think that would be hard on the sewing machine needles-
not to mention the cost--
this tape is super sticky and sticks really well to the machine base--
so I will use it the way Cluck Cluck Sew uses it!!!
and smile all the way to the cutting table when they are sewn,
to cut them apart into 2 pieces!!!!

I am waiting on a couple more new toys, too!!!!
so stay tuned for those reviews!

PLEASE STAY HOME AND SEW OR GARDEN OR BAKE RIGHT NOW--
IT IS NOT SAFE OUT THERE!!!!
LUV, DI

Just following orders Ma'am! Emily pulled me out of bed at 8AM and into the garden by 8:25.... after my required 3 sips of coffee! Late enough to use the tiller so I'll head out again and see if I can reclaim the weeds to try planting the 6 sweet potato slips I got Thursday! Sewing is on tap for later today! I agree - staying home as our numbers are rising like crazy! Too many people not wearing masks and not social distancing. I just hope my beach trip for a couple days next month doesn't need to be cancelled. Stay safe.

That diagonal seam tape is pretty cool. Happy stitching with your new tools.
